So beinhaltet schon der einleitende und grundlegende Beitrag ?Ephesos from Late Antiquity until the Middle Ages. An Archaeological Introduction? der Grabungsleiterin Sabine Ladstätter aktuellste Resultate, die hier erstmals publiziert werden. Gleiches gilt für alle anderen Beiträge, sei es ob sie sich mit dem Restaurierungsprojekt der türkischen Monumente in Ayasoluk, den Forschungen im Cömeterium der Sieben Schläfer, dem Gesundheitszustand der Bewohner des frühbyzantinischen Ephesos auseinandersetzen oder Straßen und Routen als Kommunikationswege in das ephesische Hinterland untersuchen. Ein spätes Zeugnis für die spirituelle Bedeutung des Ortes ist die im Band diskutierte Lebensbeschreibung des hl. Lazarus. Das Badewesen in Ephesos von frühbyzantinischer bis in islamische Zeit wird anhand der einzelnen Monumente besprochen und chronologisch evaluiert und dem Thema ?Hafenforschung? mit dem Beitrag zu Anzahl und Zustand ephesischer Häfen nach der römischen Zeit Rechnung getragen. Byzantinische Kreuze werden mit dem Pilgerwesen in Zusammenhang gebracht, das mittelalterliche Ephesos als Produktions-, aber auch Konsumzentrum anhand von Funden und Befunden betrachtet. Ein mittelalterlicher Münzhortfund aus dem Artemision, der sich heute im British Museum befindet, bindet auch die numismatische Forschung ein.
